Vulcans mountain

rockmountain2This part of Vulcans Mountain has been bothering me as to how to paint it. I put an underglaze coat of Electric Blue on then fired, but as I looked at it decided to go with a sandy color. Probably wasted some effort on the blue underglaze, but I am using water to spray down to the blue in some cases and is creating some interesting effects. The sandy effect still wasn’t getting there for me, so then I turned to the slip transfers I purchased from the Cordova studio and have gotten more excited about this surface. I’m using three different color underglazes to create a more interesting range of contrasts. I will continue to scruff, spray and munge it up, and then I’ll probably do a cone 6 application of a clear glaze to make the surfaces pop and be more rich.
