Underglazes

underglazeThis is the result of a clean underglaze application on top of porcelain slip cast cherubs. Very clean very bright. My goal is to now fire these up to cone 6 and see what happens . Hopefully the clay doesn’t melt, it’s indicated as a cone 5 max, but.. well we’ll see I may have my first shelf grind coming up in the near future. I put a second underglaze on top of the first after the cone 04 bisque fire. and then I’ll put a clear commercial glaze on the top half and a soda ash solution on the bottom half and see what happens. should be interesting.

My next set will involve a two color setup of my favorite picks plus soda ash and varying the density of the underglazes. a little more playful than the straight up underglaze tests.
